ตำนานเดชนางพญางูขาว (The Sorcerer and the White Snake) เป็นหนังจีนที่ดูชื่อก็รู้แล้วว่าเป็นหนังรักระหว่างคนกับงูแน่ๆ แล้วก็เป็นอย่างนั้น แต่วิวัฒนาการของหนังจีนช่วงหลายปีมานี้เขาไม่ได้สร้างหนังที่มีพล็อตเรื่องทื่อๆ อีกแล้ว เพราะหนังส่วนใหญ่คนสร้างเขาคิด และคนดูดูแล้วก็ต้องคิด
นางพญางูขาวเวอร์ชั่นนี้ special effect เพียบ มีข้อมูลว่าใช้งบสูงถึง 800 ล้านบาท โดยมีเจ็ตลีที่เป็น trade mark ของหนังจีนกำลังภายใน มางวดนี้เปลี่ยนบทบาทมาเป็นหลวงจีนปราบปีศาจ
ปีศาจทุกตนในสายตาของหลวงจีนคือผู้ร้าย ต้องปราบให้สิ้นซากแบบไม่มีข้อแม้ เรียกว่าเจอหน้ากันเมื่อไหร่ก็เข้าสู้กันทันทีไม่มีหยุดพักถามชื่อแซ่กันให้เสียเวลา เพราะปีศาจถูกตราหน้าไว้แล้วว่าเป็นผู้ร้าย แต่เมื่อศิษย์ตัวเองกลายเป็นปีศาจเสียเองหลวงจีนกลับลังเลที่จะทำลายลูกศิษย์ จึงน่าคิดว่าตกลงหลวงจีนเอาอะไรตัดสินว่าอะไรดีอะไรชั่วและใครเป็นผู้ร้าย ยิ่งเรื่องการไปไล่ล่านางงูขาวที่แปลงกายเป็นคนอยู่กินกับพระเอกคนแจวเรือเพราะความรักนั้น หลวงจีนใช้อะไรมาเป็นเกณฑ์การตัดสินใจ เพราะหลวงจีนเองก็รู้ว่านางงูขาวยินยอมเสียพลังตัวเองเพื่อทำยาให้พระเอกเอาไปรักษาคนถูกพิษปีศาจด้วย
สองปีก่อน painted skin เป็นหนังรักระหว่างปีศาจหมาจิ้งจอกกับคน เรื่องนั้นก็ดูว่าเป็นหนังดีแล้ว แต่เรื่องนี้ดีมากยิ่งขึ้นไปอีก ดีในแง่ของ special effect และดีในแง่ของเนื้อเรื่องที่ดูแล้วแทนที่จะเกลียดปีศาจงู กลับกลายเป็นต้องนั่งเอาใจช่วยซะงั้น
และดีที่สุดคือเพลงประกอบหนังที่เพราะมาก
